What Information Do We Collect?
We collect information in several ways during your visits to the HEAT Web Site. Some personal information is collected when you sign up to receive a newsletter, volunteer, or send a message. When you contact us, we also may keep a record of that correspondence. Also, when you make a donation on our site, we may also keep a record of that donation.
We will work to provide a link to our current Privacy Policy on pages where we ask you for personal information.
You are free to use the HEAT Web Site without typing in any personal information or sending us any messages – this is a way for you to avoid giving us any personally identifiable information.
What Are Cookies and How Do We Use Them?
A “cookie” is information that is transferred from a Web site’s server to your computer’s browser and stored on your computer’s hard drive. This information is then available to the Web site’s server when you return to that Web site using the same browser. This information can be used to identify the user of the browser visiting the site and keep a record, for example, of your information, preferences and use of the Web site in general.
Most Web sites use cookies to improve the experience that people have visiting the Web site by directing people to certain information based on the Web pages they’ve been to before. Cookies also help to make it easier to fill out forms by recording the information that Web site users type in the most often. We use cookies to determine which parts of the HEAT Web Site are popular and which are not. Our changes to the HEAT Web Site will depend in part on the information we gather from the use of cookies, such as total numbers of people who come to the site, how many times each of the Web pages are viewed and other traffic patterns.
In the future we may use cookies to help visitors who come back to our site in other ways. If that happens, we will update our Privacy Policy. We do not use cookies to retrieve information from your computer that you did not originally send to us through the cookies. In most cases you can set your Web site browser to refuse cookies or alert you when a cookie has been transferred to your browser.
How Is My Information Used?
We use the personal information that you send us only for the purposes you specifically request. For instance, in certain cases, you may provide us with your name, location and e-mail address to send us a message or to sign up to volunteer or to send us a donation. We use this information only to the extent necessary to act upon the request or to respond. We do not provide your personal information to anyone else.
When you sign up to be on our list of volunteers and when you sign up to subscribe to our newsletter, we keep that information in order to communicate with you about volunteer opportunities or to send you the newsletter. If you want to be taken off the list, you may follow the instructions to have yourself removed from the list that are written at the bottom of the newsletter, e-mail or other bulk mail that you receive from us.
How Do We Protect Your Personal Information?
To prevent unauthorized use of your information, keep our data accurate and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and management procedures to keep safe all the information we collect through the HEAT Web Site.
