“What makes HEAT extraordinary is its ability to unite an entire community around a simple but powerful idea: that every Georgian deserves safe, reliable energy in their home. As a long-time board member of HEAT and CFO of Gas South, I’ve watched HEAT turn the generosity of neighbors, businesses, and government partners into real relief for families in crisis. That collaborative spirit — that refusal to let anyone fall through the cracks — is what keeps me committed to this mission year after year.

At Gas South, our purpose is to Be A Fuel For Good, and there is no better expression of that purpose than our partnership with HEAT. When we come together — energy companies, donors, community agencies, and state partners — we prove that no family has to face a Georgia winter alone — because no family should ever have to choose between heating their home and putting food on the table.”

I support HEAT because a safe, warm home is a basic need every Georgian deserves, yet an unexpected illness, job loss, or financial hardship can suddenly place it out of reach. I believe we are called to stand beside our neighbors when they face difficult circumstances, offering not only practical assistance but also dignity, comfort and hope. I am honored to serve on HEAT’s board and help advance its mission for individuals and families throughout Georgia.

“What makes HEAT extraordinary is its unwavering commitment to ensuring that no Georgian is left in the cold — literally or figuratively. Every day, HEAT brings together individuals, utility partners, community action agencies, and state leaders around a simple but profound belief: every person deserves safe, reliable energy in their home. That belief is not abstract. It is lived out in the way HEAT transforms compassion into action, and action into stability for families who are facing some of the hardest moments of their lives.

Countless Families, seniors, and medically fragile individuals across Georgia live with the fear of losing the energy they rely on to stay safe. A shutoff is not an inconvenience — it is a crisis that threatens health, stability, and dignity. At HEAT, we believe no one should ever have to face that fear or choose between heating their home and meeting their basic needs.

HEAT’s work is possible because of the unwavering commitment of our partners and supporters. For more than forty years, corporate partners, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and individual donors have stood with us to ensure that Georgians in crisis are not left without safe, reliable energy. Your generosity has prevented shutoffs, restored service, and protected the dignity of households across our state.

To our corporate partners, thank you for turning community values into life‑changing action. To our government and nonprofit partners, thank you for your leadership in reaching families who need help most. And to our individual donors, thank you for giving from the heart and reminding us that compassion is a powerful force for hope.

Because of you, HEAT remains a lifeline for Georgians facing energy insecurity. Your support strengthens communities, protects lives, and ensures every household we serve is met with care, dignity, and the promise of a safer tomorrow.”

About HEAT

HEAT, Inc. is Georgia’s oldest statewide fuel fund, providing critical energy assistance to households in need—regardless of the energy source they rely on. Founded by Atlanta Gas Light Company in 1983 and established as an independent 501(c)(3) in 2000, HEAT has been a trusted lifeline for vulnerable Georgians for more than four decades.

Our Impact

For more than 43 years, HEAT has helped stabilize families facing energy crises by joining forces with caring individuals, businesses, utilities, and state agencies.
Our statewide impact includes:

  • More than $30 million in energy assistance distributed to Georgians in need
  • More than 150,000 Georgia households supported
  • More than 6,000 Georgians were warmed during the 2024–2025 winter alone

Every donation directly helps an extremely vulnerable Georgia family stay warm, safe, and connected in their hour of need.

How Assistance Reaches Families In Need

HEAT uses a dual‑distribution model to ensure timely, equitable access to help:

  • Direct Assistance: HEAT’s administrative office provides direct assistance to income eligible gas customers on the Atlanta Gas Light pipeline, for further information please call 678.406.0212.
  • Statewide Distribution: The Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) distributes funds through local community action agencies statewide

Eligible households apply through the agency serving their county and must meet established income guidelines. This coordinated approach ensures that families in crisis receive support quickly and consistently.

Why Your Support Matters

Georgia faces persistent economic challenges that make HEAT’s mission more urgent than ever.

  • More than 1.3 million Georgia residents live in poverty
  • Many more struggle to afford basic household expenses
  • Low‑income families in Georgia experience some of the highest energy burdens in the nation
  • Rising utility costs and shrinking federal supports leave families choosing between heat, food, medicine, and transportation

Your donation helps prevent utility disconnections, protects vulnerable seniors and children, and keeps families safe in their homes.
